Deerfield Golf Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Riverwoods, Illinois.
Deerfield Golf Club opened for play in 1974. The course was designed by E. Lawrence Packard.
The course measures over 6,800 yards from the championship tees. The newly-renovated course now offers four sets of tees that will challenge the expert yet afford the beginning golfer a very playable and pleasurable experience.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,816 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,014 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 1, a par-5 that plays to 564 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 13, a par-3 that plays to 159 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 7, a 417 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Deerfield Golf Club is, # 16, a 180 yard par-3.

Score early as the middle 6 holes have some bite. You can score well on the last 6 holes. Some greens are enormous and some hole placements can be mean.

Decent condition, horrible pace of play, less than professional staff and a bit pricey for what you get.
Played on a Sunday morning and the starter allowed a 5-some, yes a 5 some, out ahead of other groups. Our 2-some was there 15 min. early to check in with the starter, as was the 2-some behind us. A 3-some and a 2-some showed up seconds before their tee times, were not ready to go and were clearly a group of several beginners who all knew each other. The first hole was open and the starter wouldn't let us or the other checked in 2-some behind us go off. He let the 2-some tee off and then the 3-some and by the 2nd hole, they were playing as a 5-some. The course was empty behind the 2-some behind us, so it would have seemed appropriate for the starter to maybe let the 2 groups who were ready to go, tee off and the let the groups who were late and clearly beginners tee off afterwards when they wouldn't be holding everyone else up. The on course marshall couldn't seem to understand why the groups behind the 5-some were irate. They were not keeping pace with the group in front of them and turned a beautiful day into an unbearable round of golf. Completely unacceptable for a Sunday morning at a supposed upper tier public course. Both the starter and marshall seemed completely clueless and could have cared less about properly doing their job to maintain pace of play.
The Deerfield Golf Club golf course is now permanently off my rotation. There are just too many other courses in the area that offer more value.

Pros: Greens were in immaculate condition, especially considering the droughts we've had here in 2012. The course was rather tight with tree lined fairways on most holes. A tough, fair challenge for all players. Nice practice facility as well. Cons: Expensive all around. Full price is over $70 w/cart for a non-resident weekender. On the range, a small bucket is $7, large is $14 (not that large, either). Also, I didn't like the multiple holes that lined I-294 (there were at least 5 of them). The trees do an OK job of blocking most of it out, but hooking/slicing over the concrete walls is still very possible for a big hitter. The traffic noise takes away from the otherwise serene ambiance as well.

My home course. Challenging, but flat. Improvements are good.
